There
are hundreds of books covering the apocalyptic
destruction of the Great War, and the tank
is a terrifying and inhuman part of that terrible
conflict. However, this book was not written
to describe the horror into which the tanks
and their ill-prepared crews were thrown. It
was written in an attempt to cover the production
and use of the first fighting tanks from the
perspective of the City of Lincoln and the
local people who built them. This is not a
story of the First World War; it is a story
of a remarkable invention and the creative
minds and tenacious men and women who created
it.
