Mr
East's research details the parish charities
and the men who endowed them, it traces the
relationship between Thomas Garratt, the Grammar
School and the Chapel of Ease. Land and people
are traced through Church records and show
unexpected links with the Bishop of Lydda in
Palestine and with Tattershall castle. He explores
Constables accounts and the comprehensive lists
of names of those who paid the Lay Subsidy,
the Health Tax and for the Defence of the Realm;
who attended the School in 1777 and who sat
exactly where in the parish Church in 1727.
Published
origionally in wartime Parish magazines, this
work deserves a wider audience which it is
hoped this book may reach.
