Susan was born in Branston, Lincolnshire
in 1947 and attended North Kesteven Grammar School.
At 17 Sue left to do a years training at a special
school in Louth, then she attended Leeds College
of Commerce to obtain a Diploma in Teaching Mentally
Handicapped Children. After a further year in
Louth and a year at a large ESN School in Bristol,
she returned to Lincoln to join the staff of
Queen’s Park until she retired in 1997.
Sue was a keen gardener all her life, preferring
to nurture ‘poorly’ plants back to
good health. She was always taking cuttings and
her garden was always full of plant pots with
new seedlings in them. She had enjoyed bell ringing
as a youngster, returning to it for the Millennium,
by joining the Branston Tower. In November 2002
just one week before she was due to go to Nottingham
for a thyroid operation, a routine mammogram
detected Breast Cancer.
This book is her story of her journey, full of
hope in the early days that she could beat it,
through her treatment to her death in June 2004.
The book, illustrated with her water colours
and poems, lets the reader share through her
sense of humour the ordeal of her illness.
The proceeds from the sale of this book will
be donated to support research into finding a
cure for Breast Cancer, in particular the Candles
Charity.
